200-Meter Breaststroke World Record Smashed by Russia’s Chikunova

Moscow, April 21 – Evgeniya Chikunova broke the world record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Russian Swimming Championships in Kazan.
Šekunova covered the distance in 2 minutes 17.55 seconds in the final. The Russian surpassed the feat of Tatiana Schoenmaker of South Africa (2:18.95), set for her at the Tokyo Olympics.
The decision to endorse the world record must be made by the International Aquatics Federation (Aquatics World).

Alena Zmushko (2:26.19) of Belarus placed second in the final swim, while Irina Shvaeva (2:28.56) finished third, winning the silver medal. The bronze medalist was Nika Godun (2:28.93) and finished fourth.
