A rare genetic disease has claimed the life of a 16-year-old teenager from the capital of Moscow, and doctors have indicated that it is caused by a protein resulting from a genetic malfunction that gradually destroys the brain, and eventually turns it into a “sponge” appearance.
“Over time, the patient loses many bodily functions, including the ability to sleep,” Dr. Sofya Cherkasova, a sleep disorder specialist, told News.ru, noting that the disease was discovered after observing the operations the group underwent.
