After an 8-year gap, Iran names an envoy to the UAE
On Tuesday, Iran appointed an ambassador to the United Arab Emirates for the first time in eight years.
Reza Amiri, the newly appointed ambassador, previously served as director general of the Bureau of Expatriate Iranians at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Last month, Saudi Arabia and Iran also announced the restoration of diplomatic relations between them during talks hosted by Beijing, a deal described as a diplomatic coup by China.
The two sides are expected to open embassies in their respective capitals within the two months since the agreement was signed on March 10.
The UAE is trying to manage long-standing rivalries with Iran and Turkey through dialogue to avoid any new confrontations in the region.
