Mortada Mansour, chairman of the board of directors of the Zamalek club, decided to disband the club’s women’s basketball team after she lost to her colleague from Al Ahly.

Zamalek lost 122-52 in a match played at the Red Team Hall in Al Jazeera last Sunday in the third round of the Super League Championship.

Mortada Mansour said in a televised address on his club’s channel: “What happened in Sunday’s match does not fit the ancient history of the Zamalek club, and the women’s basketball team could not be held responsible. That is why the club’s board of directors decided to cancel the club’s basketball team after a major defeat to Al-Ahly in the Super League Championship.

He added: “We dropped the women’s basketball team at Zamalek because they don’t deserve to stay at the club after losing 122-52. They go to cook or get married and we’ll play with the youth. We also fired the water polo team. and Zamalek is a champion club. What happened is wrong and we are saving money for things.”

Al-Ahly tops the ranking table of the competition, having raised his score to 6 points with a full score.

As for Zamalek, he suffered a third consecutive defeat in the group stage.

Previously, Zamalek achieved the achievement by reaching the final stage of the Women’s Super League Basketball competition among the top eight teams, and Al Ahly won the Al Mutaba League and the Super Bowl championship this season.
