Prominent crypto investigator ZachXBT has revealed that a Canadian hacker known as Soup (Dan) is the brain behind several high-profile phishing scams.

The scams allegedly include Orbiter Finance’s Discord server security breach earlier this year and the theft of Crypto Punk 6983 NFT.

Reveal the identity of the notorious prankster

ZachXBT, a blockchain spy tool that claims to be dedicated to uncovering rug pulls and exposing bad actors in the Web3 space, has revealed the identity of a notorious fraudster responsible for several high-level phishing scams in the crypto space.

In a Twitter thread posted on July 17, the researcher revealed that Soup (Dan), a Canadian hacker, facilitated the theft of millions of dollars in cryptocurrency and digital assets by attacking Web3 projects Discord servers.

ZachXBT revealed that the aforementioned scammer orchestrated their actions by creating fake Decrypt media websites and impersonating Decrypt’s chief software engineer Luke Hamilton.

Teaming up with other scammers, Soup (Dan) approaches members of a legitimate crypto projects team, tricking them into joining a fraudulent Decrypt Discord server to steal their Discord token.

Lost millions of dollars in phishing scams

While a new report from Chainalysis indicates that cryptocurrency criminals made 77% less money during the first half of this year than last year, there has been a significant increase in impersonation scams and phishing attacks in 2023.

ZachXBT also revealed that Soup (Dan) orchestrated the hack of the Pika Protocol Discord Server earlier in May, which enabled scammers to steal more than $220,000 in crypto assets. That same month, Soup and his team exploited the Orbiter Finance Discord, raising over $760,000 through a fake airdrop campaign posted on the platform.

So far, Soup has managed to make over $1 million from her dirty game and has spent some of the proceeds of her crime on exclusive digital Roblox collectibles. ZachXBT claims it has shared additional information about Soup (Dan) with some of the victims “so hopefully legal action will be taken”.
