Ambassador Antonov explains how the US is violating START measures

Washington, February 28 – The Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, announced that the United States, in violation of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), declares that submarine ballistic missile launchers and heavy bombers are incapable of carrying out nuclear missions.

The diplomat added that the Russian-American inspectors were never given the opportunity to verify the results of the “reequipment” that had been carried out, and stressed that Washington had been violating the central provisions of the New START treaty for many years.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced, on February 21, in a message to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Russia’s suspension of its participation in the Russian-American Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, stressing that his country does not withdraw from the treaty. He noted that before returning to the discussion, “we must understand for ourselves what countries like France and Great Britain are still claiming, and how we will take into account their strategic arsenals, that is, the joint strike potential of the (North Atlantic) alliance.”
