More than 70 local and national organizations in the United States have joined forces to send a compelling letter to President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, urging them to take immediate action in response to the escalation of Israeli settler attacks against Palestinian villages.
In their letter, the organizations, including notable groups such as the Texas Arab American Democrats (TADD), the American Federation of Ramallah, Palestine, and the Palestinian American Organizations Network, requested a rapid crisis response meeting with the concerned US organizations and organizers to address the pressing issues at hand. .
The letter highlighted the recent attacks on Palestinian villages, such as Al-Laban Al-Sharqiya and Turmusaya in the occupied West Bank.
These attacks resulted in the destruction of property, including arson and stone throwing, which resulted in severe damage to cars, homes and shops.
The letter expressed grave concern about the injuries sustained by many Palestinians from live ammunition caused by settlers or soldiers, indicating a grave failure on the part of the Israeli authorities to protect Palestinian lives and property.
Moreover, the letter drew attention to the large-scale military attacks launched by Israel on the cities of Jenin and Nablus in the occupied West Bank. Israel was accused of launching air strikes on buildings while armored vehicles were advancing through civilian neighborhoods, resulting in the tragic loss of innocent lives, including children and women.
The letter specifically addressed the attacks that targeted residential buildings, paramedics, ambulances, journalists and media centers in Jenin.
The Israeli forces and settlers are responsible for the killing of more than 163 Palestinians, including 27 children, this year alone.
Reports indicated that more than 129 Palestinians were killed at the hands of the Israeli army and settlers in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, in addition to the killing of 34 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
In light of these sad developments, the organizations have strongly urged the Biden administration to take decisive action by holding Israel accountable and implementing the Leahy Act.
They stressed the need to ensure that not a single dollar of US military aid to Israel is misused for purposes such as the military detention of Palestinian children, the demolition of Palestinian homes, or the annexation of Palestinian land.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the organizations implored the administration to prioritize protecting Palestinians, including Palestinian Americans, in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and addressing the grievances they faced.
In addition, they requested a meeting with the relevant organizations to discuss these pressing issues and explore collaborative solutions.
