Parents who contacted Reuters were the ones who uncovered the fact that the Kindle platform sold books geared at adults that had photos that were inappropriate for youngsters. These books can be purchased through Amazon. The parents of the pre-teen children decided to subscribe their children to Kindle Unlimited rather than the separate Amazon Kids+ program since Kindle Unlimited offered age-appropriate books that were not included in the Amazon Kids+ library.

Kindle Unlimited is a membership service that costs $10 per month and allows users access to all of Amazon’s digital content. One of its offerings is a book selection that features full-color photos of bare bodies that children can download for free without their parent’s supervision. The direct publishing function of the Kindle service, which enables authors to publish their books instantaneously and make them available through Kindle Unlimited, is utilized in self-publishing the books.

Apple did not provide any additional information regarding its conversations with Amazon. Despite this, the firm told Reuters, “We have shared these concerns with the developer and are working with them to ensure that their app complies with our guidelines.” Additionally, Apple upped the required age to use the Kindle app to 12 years or older, up from the previous requirement of 4 years or older.

The criteria for the Apple App Store state that applications that display “overtly sexual or pornographic material” are not permitted, and they further state that app developers are “responsible for moderating the user-generated content on their platforms.”

Google also stated that it had contacted Amazon and did not permit any apps in the Google Play store that include or promote content that is sexual. In contrast, Amazon stated that it is “reviewing all of the available information and taking action” based on the conclusions it has drawn from its investigation. Amazon has stated that it is “committed to providing a safe shopping and reading experience” for its customers and the families of those consumers.

As of right now, the Kindle Unlimited service does not have any parental control options, and Amazon has not yet made any modifications to the Kindle app or Kindle Unlimited.
