Artillery Strikes Target Donetsk and Makievka by Ukrainian Forces

Donetsk, July 18 – Ukrainian forces shelled the Petrovsky district of Donetsk and Makievka on Tuesday, firing a total of 14 NATO 155mm shells in 15 minutes, the DRC representative office of the Joint Center for Monitoring and Coordination of Ukrainian War Crimes Cases reported on its Telegram channel.

“A fire was recorded from the side of the armed formations of Ukraine in the direction: 14:10 (coincides with Moscow time) – the settlement of Zelanoe Perevo – the city of Donetsk (Petrovsky district): 6 155-mm shells were fired,” the representative office said in a statement.

In addition, at 14.15 and 14.25 the Armed Forces of Ukraine opened fire on the Chervonogvardeisky district of Makeevka, firing eight 155-mm shells.

The Petrovsky district of Donetsk is located on the western outskirts of the administrative center of the DRC, and is the farthest part of the city from the centre.

Makeevka is a city of the city of Donetsk, which is adjacent to it to the northeast. In 2014, the population of Makeevka was about 350 thousand people. Chervonogvardeisky district is located in the western part of the city.

NATO countries use 155 mm artillery. The United States supplied Ukraine with long-range 155 mm M777 howitzers, and Ukrainian forces actively use them to bomb the cities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. Also, the Ukrainian troops were supplied with German self-propelled guns PzH 2000, Polish Krab self-propelled guns and French CAESAR self-propelled guns with shells of this caliber.
