Azerbaijani Army Takes Control of Dozens of Military Sites in Karabakh: Ministry of Defense Statement
The Azerbaijani Army Takes Control of Armenian Separatist Military Sites in Karabakh
The Azerbaijani army has successfully gained control over numerous military sites previously held by Armenian separatist forces in the Karabakh region. This comes shortly after the launch of an anti-terrorism operation in the area, as stated by the Ministry of Defense.
During a press conference, Anar Eyvazov, spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense, reported that “more than 60 combat positions of units of the (separatist) Armenian Armed Forces are now under the control of our armed forces.”
Iran Offers to Mediate the Conflict
In an effort to resolve the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Iran has offered its services as a mediator. Additionally, Iran has urged both parties to adhere to the 2020 ceasefire agreement.
This offer comes shortly after Azerbaijan initiated a large-scale military operation to gain control over Karabakh.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani emphasized the importance of upholding the ceasefire agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as both countries share a border with Iran. Just a few days ago, Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad Reza Ashtiani expressed concerns about a potential war in the region.
The dispute over Karabakh has been ongoing between the two neighboring former Soviet countries for many years.
Although Iran maintains strong relations with Armenia, similar to Russia, recent high-level military discussions between Baku and Tehran led to an agreement to strengthen defense and military cooperation.
The death toll in Karabakh has risen to over twenty following Azerbaijan’s launch of “anti-terrorism” operations, according to the separatists’ announcement on Tuesday evening.
A separatist official claimed that 25 people were killed, with 138 wounded.
