Azerbaijani Athletes Return Home to Baku Following Flag Raising Controversy in Yerevan

Baku, April 15 – Azerbaijani athletes have returned to Baku after the flag-raising incident in Yerevan.

Earlier, video footage with a burning Azerbaijani flag appeared on the network at the opening of the competition, which started in the Armenian capital. Social media reported that the event was organized by designer Aram Nikolian, who was taken to the police station and released after a while. According to the preliminary data of the lawyer Alexander Kochubaev, criminal proceedings were initiated on the basis of the article “hooliganism”. Later, he said that according to his information, no criminal case would be opened in this case. The statement of the Azerbaijani side confirms that the national flag was defiantly burned, and this was done by an officially authorized person.
