Barcelona and Gundogan reach agreement: Details from their meeting revealed
Spanish newspaper Sport reported that Barcelona officials last night, Thursday, met with representatives of German midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan, a Manchester City midfielder, and the player’s annual salary and contract length were agreed.
And Sport newspaper indicated that Gundogan will sign a two-season contract with Barcelona, with an annual salary of 12 million euros, with the possibility of an extension for a third season.
She added that the Manchester City captain would join for free until his contract expired on 30 June, after he turned down an offer from the English club’s management for an extension due to his desire to take on new challenges.
The newspaper stated: “The Gundogan deal will expand coach Xavi’s options in Barcelona’s midfield as the player is German and is good at both defensive and offensive tasks.”
And Sport concluded their report: “Gündoğan’s Manchester City teammate Bernardo Silva is known to have been Xavi’s first choice, but his high price spurred Barcelona to opt for the German player.”
It is noteworthy that 32-year-old Ilkay Gundogan joined the ranks of Manchester City in the summer of 2016 from the German team Borussia Dortmund.
