Barcelona’s Fans Outraged by Sudden Decision
The Barcelona administration has embarked on a policy of rationalizing consumption and cutting costs in a new move that is expected to anger the Catalan club’s fans.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, Blaugrana will close its TV channel on June 30, the day the contract with the Movistar+ network expires, saving about 8 million euros annually.
The newspaper added that the Barcelona board of directors decided not to renew the agreement with the multinational platform, as the decision had already been communicated to 150 professionals working in club media.
Over the past year, the channel’s workers have made various demands, staging strikes on matchdays to secure better conditions, and in February a minimum content agreement was reached with Telefónica.
As of June 30, new formulas are being sought to maintain the club’s image, continue publishing its content and taking advantage of the club’s strong social media presence.
