Moscow, January 1 – The Washington Capitals beat the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL regular season.
The meeting, which took place in the American capital, ended with the victory of the host country with a score of 9: 2 (2: 0, 3: 2, 4: 0). The main hero of the meeting was the captain of the Russian “Washington” Alexander Ovechkin, recognized as the first star of the match. The 37-year-old forward scored hat-tricks, scoring his 804th, 805th and 806th goals in his NHL career. He fell to 88 goals behind Wayne Gretzky’s record of 894 in the regular season.
