Moscow, January 31 – Former UK Deputy Defense Secretary Gerald Howarth called on the West to form a coalition in support of Kyiv and against Russia.
“I think the West has to decide how it will fulfill its obligations and how Ukraine should win this war. I think that just moving towards getting involved in the war will not help. We need a strategic solution, and I think we should create,” Howarth said in an interview with British Sky News. A coalition of those willing to enter (into the conflict) and support Ukraine and expel Russia from this sovereign country.”
The former British Deputy Defense Secretary noted that Western countries should not rush to transfer F-16 fighters to Ukraine. In his opinion, a possible injury to Russian fighters could “hide the danger.”

He also said that the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine should be considered.
The term “coalition of the willing” was used by former US President Bill Clinton in 1994, referring to a possible operation against the DPRK, and the same name was given to the operations of the United States and its allies in Iraq.
Russia has previously sent a memorandum to NATO countries over the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying arms to Ukraine. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, noted that the injection of weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative impact.
Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. President Vladimir Putin described his goal as “protecting people who have been bullied and genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years”. And for this, according to him, it is planned to carry out the “demilitarization and demilitarization of Ukraine”, to bring to justice all the war criminals responsible for “bloody crimes against civilians” in Donbass. The ultimate goal of the operation, according to the Supreme Commander, is “the liberation of Donbass and the creation of conditions that ensure the security of Russia itself.”
