The Egyptian government is gearing up to convert the iconic Tahrir Government Building in downtown Cairo into a hotel building as part of major changes to take place over the coming period.

Oxford Capital Group, a member of the consortium that won the development scheme, said the name of the Tahrir Compound will be changed to “Cairo House”, transforming it into a luxury hotel and mixed-use complex.

The over $200 million development plan aims to renovate the complex and create an innovative combination and development of building use to reimagine downtown Cairo and future investment in the Egyptian economy.

As conceived by the architect, “Cairo House” will include more than 450 luxurious hotel rooms and hotel suites, as well as many world-class restaurants and entertainment venues.

It will also include 85,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including the largest rooftop venue in Cairo.
