Sommer almost caused his team to concede the opening goals of the match late in the first half after a fatal mistake, but De Ligt stepped in at the perfect moment to save his team from a Vitnia shot and cleared the ball off the goal line.

After the match, Sommer, who is Swiss, said in a statement to the DAZN sports network about the shot: “I will leave a truck full of Swiss chocolate on his (De Ligt’s) doorstep.”
He added: “The problem was that the only solution for me was closed, and then I had no other solution.”
He continued: “What De Ligt did there was incredible. Of course, I’m not happy with my role in this scene, but it’s amazing how he thought and saved me.”
