Moscow, March 25 – Reuters reported, citing sources, that the Chinese leadership is not interested in organizing a telephone conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.
Earlier in March, White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby told CNN that Biden was keen to speak to the Chinese leader, but that a date for their call had not yet been set.
According to the agency, a conversation between Xi Jinping and Biden could be the “first step” in normalizing relations between Beijing and Washington. Unnamed sources told the agency that despite the efforts of US diplomats, China “didn’t show much interest” in the idea.

It is noteworthy that a possible phone conversation will be the first contact between the two presidents since their meeting at the G20 summit in Bali in November last year.
