China’s National People’s Congress Concludes Session in Beijing

Beijing, March 11 – The first session of the main deliberative body of the People’s Republic of China — the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Council (Consultative Conference) formally concluded its work on Saturday.
The last meeting of the session was attended by all of China’s leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The annual session opened on March 4 in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and lasted for seven days. During this period, the session participants considered the report on the work of the CPPCC Standing Committee over the past five years and the report on the work of the CPPCC. Submission of proposals, and also elected chairman, vice-chairman, head of the secretariat and members of the Standing Committee of the Fourteenth People’s Political Consultative Council of China.

Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, which oversees issues of ideology, propaganda and organizational work within the party, was elected chairman of the 14th Central Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
The CPPCC consists of representatives from various political parties, social groups, business circles, major religious sects, as well as cultural figures. The CPPCC does not pass laws, but its members discuss major development issues at the annual session, and then submit their proposals to the legislators of the National People’s Congress.
