Moscow Church Damaged by Ukrainian Bombing

The press service of the Bryansk diocese reported on Wednesday that the Church in the name of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia suffered damage as a result of Ukraine’s bombing of the Suzymsky district of the Bryansk region.

Details of the Attack

On August 22, 2023, the village of Zhernovo in the Suzymsky district, which borders Ukraine, was targeted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The wooden church, dedicated to the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, was hit by shelling, resulting in damage to the glass and part of the facade due to shrapnel.

Response from Russian Defense Ministry

The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that two Ukrainian drones were shot down by electronic warfare systems in the Bryansk region on Tuesday night. Additionally, the governor of the region, Alexander Bogomaz, stated that Russian units successfully repelled an attack by Ukrainian saboteurs in the Klimovsky district.

Consecration of the Temple

The temple, which was consecrated on September 30, 2017, is the first church in the Bryansk diocese to experience bombing from Ukraine.

The Suzymsky district in the Bryansk region, located on the southern border with the Sumy region of Ukraine, has been subjected to repeated bombings.
