Committee of the State Duma sanctions amendments to intensify punishments for acts of terrorism

Moscow, April 17 – The Constitutional Committee of the State Duma recommended on Monday that the State Duma adopt in second reading a bill with amendments on toughening responsibility for terrorism and promoting acts of terrorism.

In accordance with Article 205 of the “Terrorist Act” of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, it is proposed to increase the maximum term for committing acts of intimidation that created a death threat to people and aimed at destabilizing the situation in the country to 20 years in prison (now – up to 15 years).

Under Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Assisting in terrorist activities”, it is proposed to raise the minimum punishment for recruitment or involvement in terrorist offenses to 7 years (now – from 5 to 15 years); In the case of collusion, it increases from 10 to 12 years.
