The Aargauer Zeitung newspaper reported that the materials of the parliamentary inquiry into the collapse of Credit Suisse would be kept secret for 50 years, which caused concern among Swiss historians.
The newspaper said the investigative committee would hand over its files, including testimonies and documents, to the Swiss Federal Archives for a period longer than the usual 30 years.
The Swiss parliament did not respond to requests for comment on Saturday.
The Swiss Historical Society raised concerns about the length of time, and its president sent a letter to the chairman of the committee stating: “If researchers want to conduct a scientific study of the 2023 banking crisis, access to Credit Suisse files will be indispensable. .”
The committee held its first regular meeting in Bern on Thursday, reaffirming the confidentiality of its proceedings.
