Investigators have launched a criminal case regarding the poisoning of children with chlorine in a swimming pool in the Tyumen region, according to a statement from the Tyumen region Investigative Committee. Earlier reports from the regional prosecutor’s office and the Rospotrebnadzor administration revealed that 13 children felt unwell after swimming in the pool, with three requiring hospitalization.
Details of the Incident
On August 18, 2023, three children born in 2012, 2015, and 2016 fell ill while visiting a private hot spring bath in the Tyumen region. They were immediately taken to a medical facility in the city of Tyumen. The preliminary investigation suggests that the children were poisoned by chlorine fumes.
Criminal Case and Investigation
A criminal case has been initiated under the article on the provision of services that do not meet security requirements (Part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Forensic specialists are currently working at the scene, collecting necessary documents and analyzing video footage. Rospotrebnadzor, the consumer rights protection agency, has taken water samples to determine the cause of the accident.
