Moscow, February 15 – Despite the support of the United States and its allies, Ukraine is unlikely to avoid a crushing defeat, wrote columnist Ted Galen Carpenter in an article for the American conservative newspaper.
“Volodymyr Zelensky’s government and his friends in the West must seize the opportunity to conduct fruitful negotiations to end the conflict and guarantee Ukraine’s neutral status so that the country does not end up in crushing defeat.
The journalist believes that the scenario in which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be able to avoid defeat is still unlikely. He noted that the conflict is likely to drag on.
Carpenter added that some cracks are starting to show in the Western bloc regarding unconditional support for Ukraine.
“A significant increase in the level of skill of Russian commanders on the battlefield and a decrease in the level of Western military assistance to Kiev will lead to the final death of Ukraine’s hopes for victory.
The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, indicated that any shipment containing military equipment to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for the Russian military.
