James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, announced the projects in the DC Universe (DCU) Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate. Since then, the first two stars of the series have been confirmed.

James Gunn joined the DC Universe when he wrote and directed The Suicide Squad in 2021. He slowly built up his portfolio of work with Warner Bros. before he and his partner Peter Safran took over the DC franchise. Now, the MCU and DC veteran is in charge of a new set of movies and TV shows. These include some of the biggest names in the Justice League and dozens of heroes and villains who have yet to have this much attention.

Fans now know the first two actors who will officially be part of this new journey under Gunn’s direction, thanks to this exciting string of announcements.

Sean Gunn as Weasel in Creature Commandos

In the comments of a different post on his personal Instagram account, Gunn confirmed that his brother Sean Gunn would play Weasel from The Suicide Squad in the animated Creature Commandos show on HBO Max.

During his presentation, Gunn also confirmed that the new DC Universe will have “animation tied directly into live action.” This means that the same actors who voice animated roles can play the same roles in live-action and other formats. He also said that he wrote all seven episodes of Creature Commandos, which is currently being made:

“What we’re doing with the DCU is tying together animation and live action. TV, movies, and video games all take place in the same world. We’re going to find actors who can play these roles and roles in other things, some of which we’ve already done. I wrote all seven episodes of this show, which is now being put together.”

Viola Davis as Amanda Waller in Waller

Gunn has confirmed, as DC’s official website says, that Viola Davis will play Amanda Waller again in her own HBO Max show called Waller. This will be her third time working with Gunn. They have already worked together on two movies, The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, in which Davis played a significant role.

Gunn confirmed that other Peacemaker characters would be regulars on the show. He also hinted that it would be a direct sequel to the 2022 show:

Amanda Waller, the character that Viola Davis plays, is coming back. Some of the Peacemaker team will also be a regular part of this show. This is a continuation of “Peacemaker.” Christal Henry, who wrote for “Watchmen,” and Jeremy Carver, who made “Doom Patrol,” are working on it. They have created this fantastic story, which I think is excellent.”
