Discover the advantages of green tea specifically tailored for women
Scientists from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the US have discovered a compound in green tea that is beneficial for women’s health.
Scientific Reports reports that in the future, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) could be used to prevent and treat uterine fibroids.
In preclinical trials, researchers studied the effect of EGCG on laboratory cell cultures of uterine fibroids taken from female patients. The samples were injected at a dose of 100 μmol of the substance per liter of nutrient medium for 24 hours, and then the presence of specific proteins in the tissues (cyclin D1, fibronectin and CTGF) was searched.
The researchers found that EGCG reduced fibronectin levels by 46-52 percent compared to a control group of uninjected fibroblast cells. The amount of CTGF proteins decreased by 86 percent. This means that the green tea compound disrupts the signaling pathway responsible for the growth, signaling, and metabolism of cancer cells.
The researchers concluded that EGCG could be a simple and affordable option for relieving symptoms and slowing the growth of uterine fibroids, as it inhibits many of the molecular pathways responsible for the development of these tumors.
It turns out that these results are consistent with the results of previous clinical trials conducted on women with fibroids who are planning a pregnancy.
