Moscow, January 3 – Serbian Novak Djokovic defeated France’s Constant Lestien in the first round match of the Tennis Championships in Adelaide, Australia, whose prize money exceeded $642,000.
Djokovic, seeded first in the tournament, won 6-3, 6-2 in his first match since 2021 at tournaments in Australia due to a travel ban. Tennis players spent 1 hour 14 minutes on the court.
Djokovic received a three-year travel ban from Australia early last year following the Australian Open scandal in January. Then the authorities were not convinced of the reasons for the athlete’s medical withdrawal from the coronavirus vaccination, and his Australian visa was canceled. In November, Australian authorities lifted a three-year ban on Djokovic entering the country.
In the second round, the winner of 21 Grand Slam tournaments will meet Frenchman Quentin Ales.
