Therapist Olga Shashkova said that a five-hour sleep can lead to irreversible processes in the body.

In an interview with the Izvestiya newspaper, the doctor indicated that such a condition could lead to serious illnesses, including cancer and obesity.

She says: “What happens to a person if he sleeps 5 hours a day for a week, month, year or more?” If this happens once, the body may not feel the effort that affects performance, fatigue and productivity during sleep. sleep, initiates processes against the background of disturbances in the circadian rhythm of the body, leading to sleep disorders, hormonal disorders, obesity, glucose and insulin intolerance and, as a result, to diabetes and cancer.

According to her, against the background of lack of sleep, serious consequences can appear associated with an imbalance in energy metabolism and the metabolic process as a whole.

She says: “The production of cortisol, melatonin and somatotropin will be impaired, fat will accumulate heavily, leptin and transcript will rise to a lower base level of lipid oxidation in the blood. All this can lead to overeating, obesity and the development of type 2 diabetes, chronic stress, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, irregular menstruation, infertility and even cancer, especially breast cancer … In a word, the metabolic syndrome develops against the background of a violation of the circadian rhythm.

In addition, chronic sleep deprivation affects the psycho-emotional state and performance of a person. Therefore, people who do not always get enough sleep are at risk of stress and emotional outbursts, that is, they cannot cope with stressful situations. As a rule, they are irritable, whiny, inactive, inattentive, have little physical activity and a significantly reduced libido.

“Is it possible to compensate for lack of sleep on weekends? Yes, of course you can, if lack of sleep occurs once. But if this is a permanent condition in life, then it leads to the development of pathological processes. Compensating for this on weekends is like overeating,” she says. Overeating is wrong and sometimes dangerous to health. The same goes for sleep, since it is impossible to sleep for a long time as a reserve for the future. In addition, excessive sleep is unhealthy, as it leads to disruption of the circadian rhythm, therefore, when a person sleeps longer than usual, he feels that his body is “broken” and suffers from weakness, headaches and prostration.

According to her, some try to solve the problem of lack of sleep by drinking coffee and stimulating drinks. However, the results of many studies have confirmed that this gives the body additional energy for a short period, and the person does not want to sleep for 1-2 hours. But its performance remains low.

“In addition, caffeine removes some of the necessary minerals, such as magnesium, sodium, calcium and B vitamins, which negatively affects the general condition of the body,” she says. “So you need to get enough sleep to feel good.” but don’t oversleep. It is better to go to bed before 23:00 and not use electronic devices and watch TV an hour before bed.”
