Dutchman Van Kastern won for the first time "Dakar" in the truck category

Moscow, January 15 – Janus van Kastern from the Netherlands, driving an Iveco, became the winner of the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia in the Truck category.

This Dakar victory was Van Casteren’s first in his career. Prior to that, for six years in a row, Russian KAMAZ-master crews had won in the truck category. In total, the main KAMAZ pilots achieved 19 victories in the Dakar, which is a record result.

In March, the FIA ​​banned competitions in Russia and Belarus due to the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine and allowed athletes of these countries to compete in international competitions only under a neutral flag, while riders must fulfill a number of requirements and obligations, including signing a declaration of commitment to peace principles. and political neutrality. For this reason, racing driver Sergey Karyakin and the KAMAZ-Master team refused to participate in the marathon.
