Egypt plans to place a huge seismic station next to its new nuclear reactors
The head of the department of seismology of the National Institute of Astronomical Research of Egypt, Sherif El-Hadi, revealed an urgent move to Egypt for a comprehensive study of all the lands of the country, and the development of a geographical map of areas active in relation to earthquakes. .
He explained that a clear strategy will be developed to monitor and track earthquakes in Egypt after neighboring countries have been hit by a series of devastating earthquakes.
The head of the earthquake division at the National Institute for Astronomical Research indicated that seismic stations will be redistributed and their number will be increased, stressing that they are starting to move these stations somewhat further away from populated areas, adding: “Seismic stations operate more efficiently when they are far from noise, which occurs in settlements such as new towns.
Sherif Al-Hadi confirmed that the number of earthquake monitoring stations will be increased to 100 stations inside Egypt instead of 70 stations, many short-term local monitoring stations, medium-term regional monitoring stations and large monitoring stations around the world. , which indicates that large monitoring stations are located in vital and important areas such as the El Dabaa station and the High Dam in Aswan.
The head of the seismology department added that within the framework of the national seismological network, the institute has an earthquake monitoring room, and this is the main room that connects various stations at the republic level, indicating that it works 24 hours a day. , and the room collects data from various stations and analyzes it to monitor earthquakes when it occurs locally, regionally and internationally.
Al-Hadi stressed that Egypt is in a safe zone with respect to earthquakes, and that Egypt is located inside the African Plate and away from areas where plates meet that cause earthquakes other than faults, indicating that the institute accepts everything precautions to avoid large losses in earthquakes.
