England Unearths Enormous Ancient Stone Axes
Stone axes dating back 300,000 years have been found in Kent, England.
Phys.org points out that these artifacts were found in deep sedimentary layers dating back to the Ice Age, while excavating at the foot of the plateau in the Medway Valley.
According to archaeologist Leti Ingeri, such ancient tools are called giant if their length exceeds 22 centimeters. In Kent we found two axes of this size, one 29.5 cm long.
“These are really huge axes, so it’s hard to imagine how they could be used in everyday life,” she says. “Perhaps they had a symbolic function, rather than a practical one, such as a demonstration of strength and skill.”
And he adds that scientists do not know why these axes were made and what kind of ancient people made them.
In addition to these huge axes, scientists have found during excavations about 800 artifacts and the Roman cemetery, which was used to bury the dead during the first and fourth centuries of our era, where they have found so far 25 human skeletons, of which 13 have been burned.
