Moscow, January 4 – Englishman Michael Smith became the winner of the World Darts Championship.
In the final of the competition, held in London, Smith beat the 33-year-old three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen of Holland, who was seeded in the tournament under third place, 7-4. The 32-year-old Englishman was awarded the number four seed. The victory in the world championship was his first in his career. He has previously lost in the finals twice (2019, 2022).

The winner of the last tournament was Scotsman Peter Wright. At the 2023 World Championships, he lost to the Belgian Kim Huybrechts in the 1/16 finals.
