EU and UK Negotiating Access to Frontex Border Agency

Reports suggest that the European Union and Britain are currently in discussions to establish a preliminary agreement regarding the UK’s access to the Frontex border agency. However, it should be noted that the specific details of the agreement have not yet been finalized, according to a spokesperson for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The spokesperson emphasized that negotiations are ongoing and the text of the agreement has not been agreed upon. The UK government hopes to reach an agreement that is mutually beneficial for both parties involved. The spokesperson also stated that some of the reports circulating about the negotiations may not be accurate.

Tackling Immigration Issues

Britain is currently engaged in talks with the European Commission regarding how to address immigration concerns. While the UK has previously established bilateral agreements, including one with Turkey to combat human trafficking and illegal migration, it no longer has re-entry agreements with the EU since its departure from the bloc in 2020.

When asked about the government’s stance on the EU agreeing to an agreement for returning individuals who cross the Channel, the spokesperson stated that they prefer to consider all aspects comprehensively. They declined to provide further details on the ongoing negotiations, stating that it is part of the negotiation process.
