Moroccan tomato exports to the European continent increased by 9.74% this year.

The European statistical data center Eurostacom and the Spanish platform HurtInfo said that “Moroccan tomatoes have outpaced their Spanish counterparts after being the last, according to 2021 data, the first important players in the European market, but the figures for 2022 2023 has shown progress in favor of Tamatem.” Morocco.

In the first quarter of this year, Morocco exported 196 million kilograms of tomatoes, worth about 359 million euros, a record compared to 2021, when only 17 million kilograms were exported.

The figures show that Moroccan tomatoes also competed with Turkish, French, Dutch, Belgian and others, and these are countries whose tomato exports in the first quarter of 2023 appear to be on a downward trend, as France decreased by 20%, the Netherlands by 60%, followed by Belgium with a record 72%.

According to the data, European countries have purchased a total of 641 million kilograms of tomatoes this year, most of which came from the Kingdom of Morocco, which remains a favorite tomato due to its low price and high quality.

According to the Moroccan website Hespress, the rise in these figures in tomato exports abroad highlights fears of high prices in the national market as, despite the concerned ministry’s approach to a priority policy for the domestic market, Moroccan exporters are clinging to a doubling of tomato exports.
