Final Fantasy XVI Sales: Strong Performance and Considerable Attach Rate with PS5 Install Base, Says Square Enix
Final Fantasy XVI Sales Performing Strongly, Says Square Enix
Publisher Square Enix has responded to suggestions that the game hasn’t sold as strongly as the company might have hoped, telling IGN that the game has performed ‘extremely strong’ when you take into consideration the PS5 install base.
The latest entry in the long-running RPG series sold three million copies during its launch period, which prompted some people to question whether it had failed short of expectations. However, in a statement issued to IGN, Square Enix pointed out that there’s a considerable difference in the install base with PS5 compared to when Final Fantasy VII Remake launched.
Sales Success of Final Fantasy XVI
With 38 million PS5 consoles shipped globally (as of March 31, 2023), sales of Final Fantasy 16 surpassed three million units worldwide several days after its release on June 22, 2023. Taking into consideration the sales figures of the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Remake and the difference in size of the install base of the PlayStation 4 at the time of this title’s release, we can see that the attach rate of Final Fantasy 16 is considerably high, given the PS5 install base.
Square Enix considers the initial sales results of Final Fantasy 16 to be extremely strong, and we will continue to carry out a wide range of initiatives to encourage even more people to play the game.
Future Plans and DLC
Final Fantasy XVI was released exclusively for PS5 in June 2023, and you can read our full review here. Recently, producer Naoki Yoshida, the game’s producer, revealed that the development team is considering options for DLC based on user feedback.
