Forecasting Russian Tourist Destinations for the May Holidays: Insights from Experts

Moscow, April 7 – Russians’ plans for the May long weekend are set out, according to MTS Travel and
Online services specialists analyzed the data of 20 cities of the Russian Federation and neighboring countries that recorded the largest number of reservations for the period from April 29 to May 9.
St. Petersburg has become the leader in the number of orders in Russia – 11 percent of travelers chose it for the May holidays. Tourists plan to stay in the city for an average of three to four days.
Seven percent of users will go to Kazan, six percent to Moscow, and five percent to each of Sochi and Nizhny Novgorod.

Among the most popular neighboring countries are Belarus, Uzbekistan and Abkhazia. Minsk became the leader in terms of the number of orders, followed by Brest and Tashkent.
Most tourists – 65 percent – book three-star hotels. Accommodation in mini-hotels and apartments is in great demand. Moreover, they choose the most budgetary options: the average price for a room in open sale is seven thousand rubles per day, while the actual price for booking is four thousand.
Experts also discovered that every fifth traveler plans a vacation with business days captured from May 2nd to May 5th.
