Paris, June 20 – French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said on Tuesday that two supporters of the Islamic State terrorist group had been arrested in France on suspicion of planning violence.
Along with the letter, the minister attached a link to an article in Parisien giving details of what happened. According to the post, those arrested are a 17-year-old high school student and a 21-year-old law student, who are suspected of “preparing acts of violence in the name of ISIS*”. According to the newspaper, they were planning an attack with bladed weapons “against various targets: civilians, individuals considered opposed to Islam, or churches.”

A high school student was arrested in early March after law enforcement officers noticed “disturbing activity” on his social media, in which the teen stated he wanted to commit a knife attack “no matter who.” Parisian writes that as a result of a search of his house, several samples of edged weapons were found, as well as a patch with ISIS symbols.
While studying the detainee’s online contacts, investigators also found a student who, according to law enforcement officers, was acting as a mentor to a 17-year-old boy. He was arrested in June, and violent photos, advice about buying edged weapons for his “ward”, as well as calls for violence were found on his phone. The newspaper reported that a plan was found for a church in Paris during a search of student housing.
In addition, investigators found that the student also interacted with young extremists from other countries, notably from Britain, Belgium and Switzerland. The article stated that law enforcement officers passed intelligence information to their foreign colleagues, thanks to which they were able to detain several teenagers.
