The German government plans to significantly reduce the funds allocated to federal states for the reception and integration of refugees next year. Berlin has informed the federal states that it intends to allocate a maximum of 1.7 billion euros for refugees in 2024, which is more than half of the amount allocated in 2023 (3.75 billion euros).

In a recent statement, German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck, expressed concerns about the ability of many municipalities in Germany to provide adequate shelter for the increasing number of migrants arriving in the country.
