Back Injury Forces Jamal Musiala to Sit Out Germany’s Matches

German midfielder Jamal Musiala will be unable to participate in Germany’s upcoming friendlies against Japan and France due to a back injury, as announced by the German Football Association on Thursday.

According to the statement, Musiala will not be joining the national team for the matches in Japan (scheduled for Saturday in Wolfsburg) and France (scheduled for Tuesday in Dortmund) due to back pain. He was unable to check into the team’s hotel as planned.

Musiala, who is 20 years old, was included in the 24-player squad selected by German coach Hanzi Flick Loditi in September, despite previously being sidelined from Bayern Munich’s last two matches due to a left hip injury. Bayern Munich is the reigning German league champions.

It has been decided that no replacement will be called up for the talented midfielder in the German national team.

In a separate development, striker Niklas Volkrug left the German team on Wednesday to return to Borussia Dortmund due to hip pain. In place of Volkrug, veteran Thomas Müller has been called up by Flick for the first time since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Germany, as the host nation, is preparing for the 2024 European Cup Final and is also hosting these friendlies as part of the preparations for the continental tournament scheduled for next summer.
