Gift of Life: Gazans donate blood to help Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims
On Sunday, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip donated blood generously to support earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
“This campaign is an expression of solidarity with the Turkish and Syrian people,” said Iyad Al-Masry, executive director of the Al-Amal Foundation for Orphans’ Care, which organized the blood donation drive.
“What is happening in Turkey and Syria affects the entire Arab and Islamic nation,” he added.
Under the slogan “One Body,” Al-Masry said that the one-day campaign “sends a message of love and peace to all.”
More than 29,000 people were killed and more than 80,000 others were injured by two powerful earthquakes that struck southern Turkey last Monday, according to the latest official figures.
The earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6 was felt by 13 million people in 10 provinces in Turkey, which was concentrated in Kahramanmaras province and also affected several countries in the region.
In Syria, at least 3,574 people have been killed and more than 5,290 injured in the deadly earthquakes, according to figures released on Sunday.
