Good news for the Liverpool team ahead of today’s match against Newcastle.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed the readiness of his Dutch defender Virgil van Dyk to play against his host Newcastle United today, Sunday, in the 24th round of the English Premier League.

Virgil Van Dyke, the rock of the Reds’ defence, was absent from stadiums due to an injury sustained in the first half of Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Brentford on 2 January 2023 and was on the bench in ” Merseyside derby against Everton last Monday.

Klopp responded to a question at the pre-match press conference if Van Dyck would return to the Reds, saying: “I think so. Yesterday (in training) he seemed fully prepared.”

The German coach added: “The match against Newcastle is very important. St. James Park is always a difficult stadium for opponents. We hope to show the same level as in the match against Everton.

Van Dyke’s return will be a big boost for Liverpool as he aims for a second win in a row and close the gap on the top four.

Liverpool have only won once in their last four Premier League matches and have been eliminated from the FA Cup by Brighton during Van Dijk’s absence due to injury.

Liverpool have returned to the league winning tone from the Merseyside derby by beating neighbors Everton with goals from Egyptian star Mohamed Salah and Dutch star Cody Gakbo to ninth with 32 points from 21 matches.

While Newcastle United are fourth in the league table with 41 points from 22 matches, 10 wins compared to 11 draws and only one defeat this season in the league, and it was in the hands of Liverpool in the first round with two goals to one.
