The Istanbul Stock Exchange fell more than 7% today, Tuesday, amid economic fears over the consequences of a massive earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria yesterday, killing and injuring thousands of people.
By 14:26 Moscow time, the main Borsa Istanbul 100 index fell by 7.76% to 4,547.81 points.
At the same time, the dollar rose slightly by 0.07% to 18.8309 liras, and yesterday the Turkish currency reached 18.8355 liras per dollar, which is a record low for the Turkish currency.
The earthquake that struck Turkey on Monday is expected to cause an increase in the economic burden on the country in the coming period.
Yesterday morning, parts of Turkey and Syria were hit by a massive earthquake that left thousands dead, injured, houses and infrastructure destroyed.
