The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is preparing to pour concrete bases for transmission towers for an electrical connection project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
An exchange of 3,000 megawatts between the two countries is planned after the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company conducted operational tests on all the towers and ensured that they were 100% successful in preparation for their installation.
An official source at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy said the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has begun pouring concrete bases for transmission poles for the Egypt-Saudi Arabia interconnection project to exchange 3,000 megawatts between the two countries.
The source explained in statements to the Seventh Day website that performance tests have been carried out on all the pylons of the Egypt-Saudi Arabia electrical connection project, of which there are about 1,300 pylons, confirming that the success of the experiments was 100% confirmed.
The source added that it is expected that the installation of power transmission towers will begin in June next year, explaining that work on pouring concrete for the first transformer substation in the city of Badr is ongoing.
The source indicated that the Saudi side has begun installing power transmission towers in Saudi Arabia, noting that the length of power transmission lines in Egypt is 300 km, and in the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaches 1000 km.
And the source continued that the project schedule includes the operation of the first phase of the communication line between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in October 2025 with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts, indicating that the remaining capacities will be introduced sequentially until 3,000 megawatts are reached for exchange with the Saudi side, explaining that the project implementation period takes 36 years months from the date of signing the contracts at an investment cost of 8 billion pounds for the Egyptian side.
The source added that the earthworks for pouring the concrete foundation for the installation of power transmission towers have been completed together with the pouring of concrete for the Saudi side.
The source added that the electrical connection project between Egypt and Saudi Arabia would cost a total of $1,800 million, be 22,000 circuit kilometers long, and be completed within 52 months from the date the final contracts were signed.
