German magazine Kicker gave a big surprise about Bayern Munich’s talks with Norway’s former Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland during last summer’s Mercato.

Last summer, during the transfer period, Bayern Munich made active attempts to enlist the services of Haaland before Manchester City managed to close the deal.

Haaland joined Manchester City on a 5-year deal in exchange for paying a €75m penalty clause in his contract with Borussia Dortmund.

According to the well-known Kicker magazine, Bosnian Hasan Salihamidzic, sporting director of Bayern Munich, was ready to sign Haaland last summer, breaking the salary cap of the team led by the duo of Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer.

The German magazine stated that the Bavarian club were going to pay Halland an annual salary of 35 million euros annually, in addition to buying his contract from Borussia Dortmund for 75 million euros.

Bayern Munich would have signed Haaland on a 5-year contract for a total salary of €175m on top of the transfer fee, meaning the deal would have cost the club’s coffers a quarter of a billion euros.

However, Manchester City managed to convince Haaland to join his ranks and ignore an offer from Bayern last summer.

Earlier, the British Daily Mail reported that Haaland’s salary at Manchester City is estimated at £375,000 a week.

Haaland is the second highest paid player at Manchester City behind Belgian Kevin de Bruyne who earns £400,000 a week.

However, the English newspaper confirmed in a previous report that Haaland’s salary is in excess of £850,000 a week due to some special clauses in his contract with Manchester City related to amazing performance.

Erling Haaland, 22, has made 38 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions this season, scoring 44 goals and providing 5 assists.

Haaland became the first English Premier League player to score 44 goals in a single season since Egyptian star Mohamed Salah wore a Liverpool shirt during the 2017-2018 season.

Haaland tops the Premier League scorers list with 30 goals and is just 4 goals away from the record for most goals in a season set by Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer.

The Norwegian star also tops the UEFA Champions League top scorers list for the 2022-2023 season with 10 goals.
