Honoring Argentine National Team: Unveiling the Statue of Messi

Moscow, March 28 – The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) presented a statue of Lionel Messi at the 2022 World Champions Honor Ceremony in Lucca (Paraguay), CONMEBOL’s official website reported.
In December, the Argentine national team became the world champion for the first time since 1986. Messi was recognized as the best player in the final and the entire tournament. In the final match, the Argentine national team beat the French on penalties.

In an event called La Noche de las Estrellas (Night of the Stars), Messi received copies of the trophies he won with the national team from CONMEBOL President Alejandro Domínguez, as well as a life-size statue to be installed in the Etihad Museum along with statues of Diego Maradona and Pelé. The rest of the Argentine national team players have been awarded individual medals and statuettes in recognition of their achievements.
Messi, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, has won the Ballon d’Or seven times. As part of the Argentina national team, he won the Olympic Games (2008) and the America’s Cup (2021). At the end of February, Messi won the FIFA Best Footballer of the Year 2022 award.
