Moscow, January 8 – The Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in an NHL regular season game.

The meeting, which took place in Columbus, ended with the victory of the hosts on penalties – 4: 3 (0: 0, 2: 3, 1: 0, 0: 0, 1: 0). As part of the Blue Jackets team, Russian striker Kirill Marchenko scored a hat-trick in regular time (28th, 30th and 46th minutes). He also catches his attempt in the crossfire. In Carolina, the authors of the goals were Max Pacioretty (32, 39) and Brady Shay.

Known as the star of the game, Marchenko became only the sixth rookie in Columbus history after Cole Selinger, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Cam Atkinson, Matt Calvert and Nikita Filatov, who managed to score a hat-trick. The Russian also became the first rookie among all NHL clubs in the 2022/23 season to score three goals in one match.

Blue Jackets goalkeeper Vladislav Gavrikov did not score. Forward “Carolina” Andrei Svechnikov scored an assist.
