Inter criticized for leaving out leading scorer Lukaku in Italian derby.
The Inter club have expressed dissatisfaction with the confirmation that their Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku has been suspended and unable to play in the Derby Italia against Juventus scheduled for next Wednesday, in the second leg of the Cup semi-final.
Inter’s official statement on Friday said: “The club feels it must step up its support for the player and expresses its deep regret that the victim has become the only party at fault.”
Lukaku scored the “fatal” 1–1 score for Inter in the first leg in Juventus’ stronghold in the 90th minute.
But the Belgian striker received a red card after receiving a second yellow card due to his celebration, which meant silence from Juventus fans after the goal.
Lukaku received racist chants from some Juventus fans to punish the latter by closing part of his stands for one match, a decision that was overturned on appeal.
