Inter Miami stuns football fans with Messi’s unexpected move.
A report in the British newspaper The Mirror reports that Argentinean Lionel Messi plans to take a temporary break from playing for his country to focus on his new career with the American side Inter Miami.
Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi shocked the football world by confirming a few days ago that he would leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expired on June 30; Join the Inter Miami team in the American League.
Messi is expected to play his first match for his new team on July 21 in the League Cup against Mexican club Cruz Azul.
Messi, who celebrated his 36th birthday last Saturday, told Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni that he wanted to take a year off from performing the tango dancers so that he and his family could adjust to the new surroundings, according to the Zerkalo newspaper.
The source added that Scaloni needed to consult with Argentine Football Association officials before heeding the desire of Messi, who led his country to the 2022 World Cup crown and won the Copa America the year before.
It is not yet clear if Messi will take part in next year’s America’s Cup, which will be held in the United States, as well as in the 2026 World Cup, which the United States will also co-host with Mexico and Canada.
