International Monetary: Tunisia’s financial support is on the way
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva confirmed on Monday that the Tunisian authorities have made significant progress on the necessary procedures for presenting their program to the fund’s board of directors.
“The friends of Tunisia have helped us because the country’s financial support is on its way,” Georgieva said in an interview with Al-Sharq TV on Monday.
In her response to the reasons for the delay in the debt program in favor of the Tunisian state, she added: “In the next few weeks, not months, I expect the completion of the remaining procedures, so we are presenting the program to the board of directors.”
And he said that this allows Tunisia to receive support from the International Monetary Fund and from its partners associated with this program.
The International Monetary Fund has postponed indefinitely consideration of the original agreement with Tunisia for a $1.9 billion loan.
The foundation’s board of directors was supposed to discuss Tunisia’s request at its next meeting on Monday, December 19, 2022, but the foundation posted an update to the meeting’s agenda on its website that did not include Tunisia’s file.
And the official Tunisian news agency said, citing an official source on Thursday, that a new date would be agreed to include an item related to the ratification of the Enhanced Assistance Fund Agreement for Tunisia on the agenda of the Council in the coming days, after consultation between the two parties to give there is plenty of time for the Tunisian authorities to clarify the last of the reform program requirements that I have presented to the structure of international finance.
