Iran denies reports of the imposition of the death penalty on a soccer player

Moscow, December 21 – The Iranian embassy in Colombia has denied reports that soccer player Amir Nasr Azadani has been sentenced to death for participating in protests in his homeland, La Opinion et Corona reported, citing an embassy statement.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro, on Monday, while congratulating the Argentine national team for winning the World Cup in Qatar, drew attention to the situation in Iran, where, according to media reports, Nasr Azadani faces the death penalty.
The embassy also indicated that Nasr Azadani is accused in the case of participating in an armed group involved in the killing of three police and security men with automatic weapons.

Nasr Azadani is 26 years old. Since last summer he has been without a club, and his last team was the local “Irangavan”.
